Red Sox closer Matt Barnes goes on IL due to COVID-19 symptoms

Boston Red Sox All-Star closer Matt Barnes was placed on the injured list Tuesday after experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said the team was waiting on results of a PCR test conducted Tuesday to learn whether Barnes is positive for COVID-19. He said Barnes, who is vaccinated, remained at the team hotel in Detroit.
