Oakland A's catcher Sean Murphy could see less playing time against left-handed pitching with the addition of Yan Gomes to the roster at the trade deadline. Gomes is no back-up catcher; the A's acquired him along with Josh Harrison at the trade deadline from the Washington Nationals to enhance the offensive production from the catcher's position. That means Gomes will be in the lineup against left-handed pitchers — he batted fifth against San Diego Padres left-hander Blake Snell on Tuesday — with Murphy in against right-handed pitching.
