ST. LOUIS, MO—From now on, any Cardinal's player cannot wear No. 23 on their jersey because the number is retired by St. Louis Cardinals to honored Ted "Simba" Simmons. He wore it for 13 seasons playing with the Cardinals. The No. 23 jerseys were worn by 5 players before Simmons and 18 players after him. The first retired number by Cardinals was Tony La Russa's No.10 in May 2012. Simmons' jersey was hung below the scoreboard in the right-center and as part of the mural along the left-field wall.
