When Washington signed QB Ryan Fitzpatrick during NFL Free Agency this offseason it was assumed he would be the starting QB entering camp. Rivera stated that it will be an open competition for Fitzpatrick, Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Long. Last season Rivera gave the starting job to Dwayne Haskins and he won't make the same mistake again of just handing the keys to a QB without proving himself first.
