Sidewalk Labs, the urban planning arm of Alphabet, created a sensor named Pebble that can leverage live data to improve city parking by displaying available spaces. The new Pobble sensor functions as an attachment to a parking space and can detect whether a vehicle is occupying the space or not. Pebble can then transfer data to the cloud using cellular networks by leveraging hardware attached to street poles. No identifying information will be collected during the process, as Pebble will not use cameras.
