In 1982 the Dunolly telephone exchange was one of the last manual exchanges in Victoria. Two full-time and two part-time operators handled the hundreds of calls that came through each week on the 20 lines serving the 300 phones in the district. By the end of the year the personal touch was gone, replaced by an automated system.
