Twitter has apologized after it accidentally sent out an email to existing account holders, asking them to confirm the email address on their account. Many long-term account holders were surprised when they suddenly received an email from the company asking them to click on a link to confirm their email address. Many were suspicious it was a phishing attack - where fraudsters impersonate companies such as Twitter to get them to click on malicious links - but the emails were genuinely sent by the company.
